Lilli Micrometer caliper (born on May 24th, 1914 with Posen, today Poznań in Poland; died on January 27th, 1986 with Los Angeles) was an actress and a German auteure.
Biography
Lilli Palmer was born under the name of Lilli Marie Peiser in Posen (at the time Prussian). His/her parents were and Pink Lissmann. His/her father Dr. Alfred Peiser was head doctor with the Jewish Hôpital of Berlin, his mother was actress of theater but had given up the trade immediately after engagement. Lilli had the older sister - the actress and singer Irene Prador - and another younger - Hilde. When Lilli Palmer was four years old, its family settled in Berlin Charlottenburg. Today, on the house where she lived at the time, is a commemorative plaque.His/her father made pass to Lilli the abitur to Waldschule de Charlottenbourg (he wanted that she became doctor), but itself wanted to become actress at all costs. She thus went the morning to the college and the afternoon to the school of theater - and succeeds everywhere.
She followed courses of theater near Ilka Grüning and of Lucie Höflich to Berlin. In 1932 it began in Hessischer Landestheater from Darmstadt. In 1934 she emigrated in Paris since as Jewish she did not have any more the right to work in Germany and occurred with her Irene sister like “the Sisters Vienneses” in various nightclubs. A little later their road led them to London where she played the principal feminine role in Crime Unlimited and thus accepted its first contract with an English production company. In 1936 she played a secondary part in Four of espionage of Alfred Hitchcock.
In 1943 it Maria with the actor of theater Rex Harrison of which it had a son in 1944, Rex Carey Alfred Harrison, which teaches today in Brooklyn University. With a contract for Hollywood in the pocket, she emigrated in the USA and played there inter alia the side of Gary Cooper in Cloak and Dagger and of John Garfield in Body and Soul . The connection of Rex Harrison with the young actress Carole Landis in the suicide of which it must be implied, caused a scandal which put an end temporarily to the Hollywood career of Lilli Palmer. The Harrison couple settled in New York, where all were success in Broadway, inter alia while playing together in Bell, Book and Candle (in French: Adorable Neighbor ). After these New Yorkean successes, Hollywood could not any more be sulky them. They were found for the film The Four Posters , but constituted more one intact couple only in the fiction.
In 1954 Lilli Palmer returned to Germany and became a star of the cinema of post-war period. She played inter alia the sides of Curd Jürgens and Romy Schneider. But it is not only in Germany that she was success - in France, Great Britain and in the USA, she turned with famous actors like Clark Gable, James Mason, Jean Gabin and Charles Boyer. For its work as actress, it was rewarded by many prices, inter alia things with Filmband in Gold.
In 1956 Lilli Micrometer caliper and Rex Harrison divorced and on September 21st, 1957 Lilli Palmer remaria the writer and Argentinian actor Carlos Thompson.
In Germany, it took part also later in telefilms and series televise, like Der Kommissar , Derrick and Eine Frau bleibt eine Frau (under the name of her late grandfather it wrote some of the scenarios of them)
At a advanced age Lilli Palmer still passed for an extraordinarily beautiful woman.
In 1974 its memories Dicke Lilli appeared - gutes Kind which were a best-seller on a world level (in French like a Good small soldier , Paris 1979). Beside its activity of writer, Lilli Palmer was also a woman-painter who was a great success.
She succumbed to a cancer on January 27th, 1986 at the 71 years age in Los Angeles. She was buried in the intimacy. Her husband refused to reach the desire of his son and his daughters-in-law desire to make it transfer in Switzerland. Its death made run of the innumerable noises, inter alia Lilli Palmer had committed suicide. The tabloid press started with ruer on its life, then on that of Carlos Thompson.
Carlos Thompson, who was the great love of his life, committed suicide four years after his death in Buenos Aires.
