Lille Metropolis Urban community
Lille Métropole Urban community is a French inter-commune structure , located in the department of the Northern and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais. The urban community was created in 1967. Its head office is with Lille. The first President was Augustin Laurent until 1971. Arthur Notebart, deputy and mayor of Lome succeeded to him until the election of Pierre Mauroy in 1989.
The current denomination is relatively recent . Previously, one spoke about C.U.D.L. , “Urban community of Lille”.
The Community council, composed of 170 members designated by the respective municipal councils in proportion to the population, is currently chaired by Pierre Mauroy, Senator, former Mayor of Lille and former Prime Minister. The office counts 43 vice-presidents of various political families: related Socialists and (16), Metropolis common passions (10), Union for the metropolis (6), UDF and related (4), Greens (2), Communist, republican and citizen (2), Actions and projects for the metropolis (2).
The realization of the automatic subway light VALLEY (1983), project carried out thanks to the tough will of Artur Notebart , one of the principal works of the establishment represents to date, just as the Northern Stadium of Villeneuve-in Ascq. More recently, urban community (from now on called LMCU), decided the construction of a future Grand Stage with Villeneuve-in Ascq.
The transborder co-operation was initially concretized by the closing of the Large Slaughter-houses of Lille, located street St Sebastien. They were transferred to Mouscron in Belgium. Also concretized by the project Grootstad (" Large Ville") who links the metropolis of North to Belgian inter-commune communities. It must evolve to a Eurodistrict, for which the inhabitants will never be consulted .
Composition
The urban community groups 85 common. It is for this reason that which counts the greatest number of members. It remains however less populated than the Urban community of Lyon:
