Biography

Lilí Álvarez is born in 1905 in a Hôtel from Rome. Raised in Swiss within a family without money worries, it is initiated very early with various sports. At eleven years, it gains its first competition of Patinage, and with sixteen the championships of Saint-Moritz. She also excels with the Billard, the ski and in horsemanship.

In 1923, with his/her parents, it moves on the Riviera where it attends the high society and improves its tennis with the king Gustave V of Sweden.

Impassioned automobile race, it leaves victorious, at nineteen years, of the Campeonato de Cataluña de Automovilismo (1924).

First high level Spanish tennis player, it reaches three consecutive finales into simple with the Tournoi of Wimbledon (1926 - 1928). Nickname mée “Señorita de Alvarez” by the press, it loses the first against Kathleen McKane Godfree and the two following ones vis-a-vis Helen Wills - which will say play of its adversary which it is “unusually daring (Sic)”.
