Synopsis

In 1948, Dave Hirsch very leaves the army haloed of glorious a last warrior. Novelist in becoming but become inveterate fast liver, it déboule a beautiful morning in the coach with Parkman, its birthplace of the Indiana. Dave- Frank Sinatra with the air to leave, Oscar 1953 out of pocket, of the film As long as there will be men turned 5 years before, adaptation, like this one, of a novel of the same James Jones. The spectator, it, will not hesitate a long time: the marginal ninnies with, at the head, Ginnie- Shirley, kind of Gelsomina ( Strada ) stiff with love unceasingly which gropes its hand cuddly toy-bag and Bama- Dean, misogynist, cynical, attentive joker but friendly, are much more attracting that the prospects for a tedious arranged future of the cars, when well even it would have the charming face and the imposing presence of Gwen- Martha Hyer. The cutting of film is exemplary and one is dazzled by a profusion of colors chatoyantes due to William H. Daniels and Charles K. Hagedon. And it was difficult to distinguish the services from the actors and technicians for various nominations…

the gift of Frank with Shirley : Shirley MacLaine still remembers with emotion that Frank Sinatra, as an elegant professional, required of Vincente Minnelli that Ginnie “be cut down in its place” at the end of film (by saying that Shirley could perhaps thus gain a Oscar). Without that bringing back a Oscar to him, Ginnie became one of the most outstanding roles of film and propelled Shirley to the row of large the stars of Hollywood in 1959. It obtained, in 1960, the principal feminine role in a capital film, Garçonnière of Billy Wilder.
It is thanks to this film that Shirley MacLaine was one of the rare girls to be allowed like mascot in the very male clan of the Rat Pack (Club of the rats) consisted of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop.
