Hydrology

Lignon of Drill is a rather abundant river. Its flow was observed over one 38 years period, with Poncins, locality of the department of the the Loire located at the level of its outlet in the Loire (ref.: ). The catchment area of the river is of 664 km ².

The interannual medium flow or module of the river with Poncins is of 8,33 m ³ a second. Lignon of Drill present seasonal fluctuations of medium flow, with high waters of winter-spring, from December to May included, carrying the average monthly flows on the level of 10,5 to 13,1 m ³ a second (with an in December maximum - February), and low waters of summer, July to September, with a monthly minimum of 2,8 in August.

The VCN3 can fall until 0,3 m ³, in the event of dry quinquennial period. Let us recall that the VCN3 is the past minimal quantity or minimal flow over three days consecutive.

The risings can be relatively important being given the smallness of its catchment area. The QIX 2 and QIX 5, or flows calculated for a biennial and quinquennial rising are worth respectively 70 and 99 m ³ a second. The QIX 10 or calculated flow of decennial rising is of 118 m ³ a second, the QIX 20 is worth 130 m ³ and the QIX 50 is assembled to 150 m ³. (see note).

The recorded maximum instantaneous flow was of 220 m ³ a second. As for the maximum daily output it was of 139 m ³ a second.

Lignon of Drill is an abundant river, supplied with sufficient precipitations especially in the upper part of her basin. The Lame of water past in its catchment area is of 396 millimetres annually, which is higher than the overall average of France all confused basins, like to the average of the totality of the basin of the the Loire (244 millimetres with the Montjean-on-Loire). The specific Débit (or Qsp) is of 12,5 liters a second and per square kilometer of basin.

Literature

Lignon of Drill is present in Astrée , of Honore d' Urfé, where it can be regarded as a protagonist with whole share. The author devotes many descriptions for the majority to him very eulogistic. For example, this tirade of Astrée, which declares: " the course of this river which, passing against the walls of the town of Boën, seems to almost cut this plain by the medium, going itself to return below Feurs in the center of the the Loire ". Lignon is the theater various episodes of the book, as the moment when Céladon seems to drown the arms crosseds in the river (the jump of céladon ). One can add that Lignon not having really evolved/moved since the publication of Astrée , it is being singularly favourable with the incantation of the novel in question.
