Lignon

Lignon is a city located on the commune of Vernier (Suisse). It is about a homogeneous urban unit built starting from the Années 1960, in the north of the village of Aïre, on old a agricultural Plaine dominating the the Rhone. The construction of the city largely contributed to the increase in population in Sliding gauge. Conceived for 10.000 inhabitants, it accommodates of them 5581 in 2005, that is to say 18% of the population of the commune. It even lost 1000 inhabitants in the 15 years space.

In 1962, the State of Geneva decides to build one of the most important cities of the canton on the 280.000 m ² than constitute the agricultural domain of Lignon. Work begins in September 1963 and the first phase of construction (1846 apartments) is completed in September 1967. One second stage between 1967 and 1971 changes the number of apartments to 2780
