Lightscribe

LightScribe is a Technologie which offers as well to the general public as with the professional simple means of engraving label S of occupational quality on CD and DVD specific.

Material

The solution LightScribe is composed of a disc with specific coating (certified LightScribe ), of a compatible engraver and a Logiciel dedicated producing screen printed labels (sometimes integrated into the software of engraving, like Nero. It is not thus any more need to have recourse to a marker, a label or a printer to personalize CD or DVD.

Use

One starts by engraving the data with the back of the disc as usual.
Once finished engraving, one turns over the media (CD or DVD) and one gives it in the engraver on the face labels.
Using an application software, one engraves a label (monochromic) worthy of a professional to the recto.

Operation

The surface of a LightScribe disc is covered with a reactive layer which changes color when it is exposed to a Rayonnement Laser Infra-rouge (780nm). The image does not deteriorate, with the proviso of protecting the disc well The label S LightScribe is not restricted with text, it is there their force, one can engrave images. The LightScribe labels are engraved with concentric circles, outside towards the center of the disc. The time of engraving thus depends on the size of the label.

LightScribe technology allows only one impression Monochrome in levels of gray. For stage with this restriction, since the version v1.2 of the specification (at the end of 2006), the LightScribe discs are available various colors. Engraving remains monochromic, but one can now choose which will be the color of funds of the label.

It is currently not possible to erase a LightScribe disc, but one can supplement the label several times of continuation in order to supplement an image, to add text or to improve contrast of certain parts of the drawing (one then applies the same label to the same disc several times, which reinforces the black more and more).

There exist 3 levels of quality for the engraving of label according to the quality of returned wished: draft (fastest), means and high-resolution (the slowest engraving of the label).

To engrave a label, you can use the official software or Nero LightScribe (for Windows) for example.

Precautions for use

To avoid the exposure to the light, of the sun in particular.
To avoid the sources of heat (lamp, sun, car in summer).
If the disc is stained, to wipe it using a soft rag.
To preserve the media in its case of origin. The PVC small pockets (recognizable with their strong plastic odor) can deteriorate the label.

Thus properly arranged, the label should remain intact for at least 9 months.
