The light subway of Tunis is a rail-bound means of transport established inside the Agglomération of Tunis since 1985.
It is about a Light subway, intermediate form between the Métro and the Tramway, since the oars circulate through the city on a Exclusive right of way in outside with exceptionally an underground circulation with the passage of the great nodes of circulation.
The light subway is managed by the Société of transport of Tunis (also known by the trade name of Transtu ), state enterprise of transport born in 2003 of fusion between the Company of the light subway of Tunis (SMLT founded in 1981) and the National company of transport (SNT founded in 1963).
In 2004, an agreement is concluded on the level from the governments French and Tunisian for acquisition from 30 new oars from type Citadis. Built by the company Alstom, each convoy comprises two cars a 64 meters length and a width of 2,4 meters being able to accommodate to 208 people upright and having 58 sitted places. The first oars are put in circulation the September 17th 2007.
The oars are of green color striped of a white line in their medium. Some are the support of Publicité S.

In 2006, the network of the light subway consists of five principal lines covering 32 kilometers and including/understanding 47 stations:
Line 1: Tunis Navy - Ben Arous (southern)
Line 3: Place of Barcelona - Ibn Khaldoun (north-western)
Line 4: Tunis Navy - Den Den (western)
Line 5: Place of Barcelona - Intilaka (north-western)
The October 2nd 2007 begin work from extension of line 4 - 5,2 kilometers in direction of the Université of Manouba - which should be completed in September 2009. Moreover, within the framework of five-year plan XIe (2007 - 2011), the projects of extension of the network towards the districts of El Menzah, of Ennasr even towards the cities of the suburbs (Kram, Ain Zaghouan, Sidi Daoud and Bhar Lazrak) are adopted.
The frequency of passage of the oars is, in rush hour, from six to eight minutes and twelve minutes during the remainder of the service.
