Elaeagnus is a botanical kind of the family of the Elaeagnaceae composed of an about sixty species originating for the majority in the moderate areas in Asia, with a species ( Elaeagnus will triflora ) originating in Australia, another ( Elaeagnus commutata ) originating in North America and a last ( Elaeagnus angustifolia ) originating in Europe.
Etymology
Elaeagnus (of the Greek elaea , the olive-tree and of “gnos” which means crowned) bears the name Vernaculaire of chalef (which means “Arab Saule” in ) because one believed Elaeagnus related in the kind Salix .
Description

Use
Many species are cultivated for their fruits: Elaeagnus angustifolia , Elaeagnus umbellata and Elaeagnus will multiflora (gumi) mainly in China but the interest for this species is growing in other parts of the world. Elaeagnus umbellata has a strong rate of Lycopène. Elaeagnus will multiflora is used by the Chinese like food and drug. Its fruits are numerous and have good taste particularly.Like some leguminous used like green Manure, the Elaeagnus forms Nodosité S on their roots which enable them to grow in very poor grounds.
The various species of Elaeagnus are used like food by the Larve S of certain species of Lépidoptère S such as Coleophora elaeagnisella and Naenia typica .
