Licinio Rangel

Mgr Licinio Rangel , born in Campos on January 5th, 1936 and dead December 16th, 2002, was bishop and apostolic administrator of the Union Saint-Jean-Marie-Vianney.

Minor brother

It is ordered priest within the Ordre of the minor brothers in September 1967.

Schismatic bishop

He was devoted on July 28th, 1991, without the agreement of Rome, by Bernard Tissier de Mallerais, was assisted Alfonso de Galarreta and Richard Williamson the évèques ones of the Fraternité Saint-Pie X, in São Fidelis in the state of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. He succeeds then Mgr Antonio of Castro-Mayer like superior of the union saint-Jean-Marie-Vianney, company of priests traditionalist in the diocese of Campos.

Reconciliation with Rome

August 15th, 2001, Mgr Rangel, with 25 of its priests is reconciled with the Holy See. He addresses a letter to Jean-Paul II, by whom he swears fidelity with the apostolic seat. Consequently, the pope raises the union Saint-Jean-Marie Vianney with the row of personal apostolic administration, with faculty to exclusively use the liturgical books of 1962. He occupies the seat in partibus of Zarna of 2002 with his death.

Because of its health, he asks Rome an auxiliary bishop. Rome grants to him to choose its bishop coadjutor, who will succeed to him automatically. Fernando Rifan is crowned on August 18th of 2002, by the cardinal Castrillon-Hoyos and Mgr Rangel. Mgr Rifan succeeds Mgr Rangel on December 16th, 2002.
