Libron
The Libron is a Fleuve French of a low flow, from a basin of a surface of approximately 190 km ², Libron extends on approximately 40Km, with a 5 m broad average. One can locate the upstream until height of Boujan, where the river leaves its méandreux aspect and takes a linear layout.
The river knew risings devastators, of which most spectacular was observed during the autumn 1964.
Its course
It takes its source near Laurens (Herault) with the junction of the Naubine and the Sauvanès. Then it crosses the communes of Caussiniojouls, Magalas, Lieuran-lès-Béziers, Boujan-on-Libron or Béziers.
Lastly, it is thrown in the Mediterranean towards Vias, after having crossed the Canal of the South, thanks to a whole of works to be discovered on http://www.canalmidi.com/aufildlo/libron.html
Installations
The river was rectified in its downstream part, of the outlet at sea until upstream of the Canal of the South. Today, there still remains the natural Grau of Libron but an installation makes it possible to channel over water of the channel, torrential water thus avoiding the stranding of this last of to the presence of silt in the bed of Libron. Corrections and dammings up were also made between Boujan on Libron and the Channel of the South.
On Laurens, in the upstream part of the river a concreting of the bed was carried out.
Other installations, as the installation of the banks of the bed to height of Lieuran, Magalas, as well as operations of re-callipering downstream from the stopping.
Pollution
One finds 6 Purification plants, whose improvement is an urgency, in particular those of Lieuran and Boujan (Two stations). The cooperative wine cave of Lieuran rejète of water of washing of ground not collected. The cellars of Magalas and Boujan are also hearths of pollution.
At the time of the summer of 2005, the drinking water of Lieuran, from which the two stations of collecting come from a ground water, was polluted and unsuitable with consumption during three weeks.
Libron, because of its low flow, is sensitive to the Eutrophisation causing a reduction in the Biodiversité.
