Libro de Ezra

The Wakizashi (脇差) is a Japanese Saber curve similar to the Katana but in smaller, whose size is between 30 and 60cm. It can be carried with a katana, slipped into the belt, in which case one calls the unit Daisho . The commercial rich person, not being able to carry the Katana, on the other hand are authorized to carry the wakizashi.

It is only handled with a hand. The handle is width of a hand. Handled with the Katana it is used of “hand-left”, or weapon of parade.

The Samurai S carried the Katana and the Wakizashi, attached on the left to the belt.

The practitioners of Kenjutsu, and in particular of the style Niten ryu (school heiress of Musashi Miyamoto), use a wakizashi out of wood called shoto for the drive. It is the weapon of predilection of the Iaido kas.

The Samurai S made use of Wakizashi to fight in the closed place. As those were relatively short a combatant was freer in his movements than with a longer blade. Thus the Katana was used to fight in places of important size (outside, big rooms…).

Simple: Wakizashi
