Library of the Gantry of Octavie
The library of the Gantry of Octavie or library of Marcellus ( Bibliotheca Porticus Octaviae or Bibliotheca Marcelli ) was established by Octavia Thurina Minor in 23 av. J. - C. in the Portique of Octavie ( Porticus Octaviae ), on the Champ de Mars.
It was built after the death of Marcus Claudius Marcellus, wire of Octavia Thurina Minor, nephew of Auguste, in his memory, like the Théâtre of Marcellus.
The Bibliothèque was improved by Caius Melissus financially helped by Caius Cilnius Mæcenas at the end of the Ier century front J. - C., and divided into two sections, for the Greek works and for the Latin books.
The building and the books burned in 80 a. J. - C., but the books were probably replaced in the building which was rebuilt by the emperor Domitien.
A second fire touched the Bibliothèque in 203 a. J. - C. and it was rebuilt by the emperors Septime Sévère and Caracalla.
