Library of the Arsenal

The library of the Arsenal , located at Paris in the fourth district (1, rue Sully), is in the beginning the library of the marquis de Paulmy d' Argenson (1722 - 1787) which had a rich person collection, made up in particular of Manuscrit S medieval and of Estampe S. It was located in old the Arsenal of Paris.

With the Revolution, one deposits many works of quality there coming from the large Parisian abbeys, before dêtre opened with the public in April 1797.

Redécouverte at the 19th century by Charles Nodier, his notoriety will not cease growing, in particular thanks to the Coterie of which it constituted the general headquarter, like his funds, enriched by the obligation by the registration of copyright in 1837.

It since 1934 is attached to the National library of France, from which it constitutes a department.
