The Bibliothèque of State of Russia (in Russian, Российскаягосударственнаябиблиотека ) is the National library of Russia, located at Moscow. It is the largest library of Russia and one of largest of the world. It should not be confused with the Russian National library, located at Saint-Pétersbourg.
The library was founded on July 1st 1862, as being the first free library opened with the public, under the name of Bibliothèque of the public Museum of Moscow and the Museum Roumiantsev , or more simply Bibliothèque Roumiantsev . Of 1925 with 1991, it was called Bibliothèque of State V.I. Lénine of the USSR and in 1992 it accepted its current name. Between 1922 and 1991, at least a copy of each book published in the USSR was integrated into the library, and the same practice still takes place, the library having been indicated by the law as place where it is obligatory to hold a copy of each book published in Russia.
Behind the frontage of this library are more than 275 kilometers of racks, more than 42 million objects, including 17 million books and volumes of series, 13 million newspapers: 350000 musical recordings: 150000 charts and others. The media represent 247 spoken languages in the world, the foreign part accounting for approximately 29% of the integral collection.
In front of the main entrance of the building draws up a monument with Fedor Dostoïevski.
