Library of Asinius Pollion

The library of Asinius Pollion ( Bibliotheca Asini Pollionis ), built in 38 av. J. - C., is the first public Bibliothèque with Rome.

It was established by Gaius Asinius Pollion in the Libertatis (also containing the office of the critics), whereas it ensured the repair of the square of the Temple of Freedom on the Aventin.

The Bibliothèque contained books Greek and Latin, with the busts of the authors, and it was also used as Musée for works of art in general. One found there the works of Aristote, whose works had known a recent republication, but also works of Roman poetry.
