The libertarian communalism is a political position of anarchistic Communists considering that the commune could be an administrative means allowing to manage the problems of the city, by counting the needs there and to find by this self-management association and the mandatement imperative one, the means to answer it.

This means wants to be revolutionary by the fact that there exists within the capitalist system, and would be the means making it possible to make the revolutionary transition in order to arrive at a libertarian communist company.

Experiments of this type of organization took place at various times: at the time of the Common of Paris, at the time of the Russian Revolution (ex: with the free commune of Goulaï Polié, or Cronstadt), at the time of the War of Spain (1936), communities acting as associations various communes, etc

The principal theorists are Kropotkine, Elisee Reclus, etc
