Created at the beginning of 1944 by Philippe Viannay and Claude Bourdet, the Liberation movement main road (MLN) gathered the WALL (movements of the Southern zone, having amalgamated in the plain Mouvements of Resistance) and several movements of the Northern zone.
It is the result of the great work of unification of the movements of Resistance, fruit of the work of the National council of Resistance (CNR), carried out by Jean Moulin at the request of the Général De Gaulle.
July 25th, 1945, the majority of the MLN forms a new political party: the democratic and socialist Union of Resistance. While a minority, near to the Communist party (Emmanuel d' Astier of Vigerie, Pascal Chip), founds the republican Union and resistance (URR) then takes part in the creation of the Union of the republicans progressists (URP).
