The years 1980
In 1984, the party chooses Sharon Carstairs like new chief. She is elected with the legislative Parliament at the time of the election of 1986, and to the election of 1988 leads the party to 20 seats and the statute of Official opposition. This was caused by the unpopularity of the government néo-democrat of Howard Pawley, which made it possible to the liberals to attract itself the support of several voters of center-left (the liberals having given up their origins of right-hand side in the middle of the Années 1970, especially after the departure of Israel Asper as a chief of the party.
This rebirth was temporary. The NPD is revigorifié under Gary Doer, and the liberals fall down in third place at the time of the election of 1990 with only seven seats, against 20 for the NPD and 30 for the conservatives.
The decline continues (1993 with today)
