Liberal greens

The Verts Liberals (in German Grünliberale Partei ) are a political party Suisse mainly present in the Canton of Zurich.

History

The August 18th 2004, the Swiss Verts exclude Martin Bäumle from their parliamentary group. This last decides one then to cause a schism within the Greens inhabitant of Zurich and gathers, in the one year space, nearly 300 members to found a new party. The new party is chaired by a triumvirate: Martin Bäumle, Tiana Moser and Thomas Weibel.

With Bäumle, the Liberal Greens thus have a seat with the National council during the 47e legislature. Until May 2007, they are also present at the Council of State inhabitant of Zurich with the presence of Verena Diener.

It is with the beginning of the year 2006 that the Liberal Greens take part for the first time in communal elections. So with Zurich, they do not reach the quota of five percent of voice which makes it possible to sit at the Town council, they on the other hand obtain two seats out of 60 with Winterthour and two seats out of 36 in the towns of Uster and Opfikon. With the cantonal elections inhabitants of Zurich of April 15th, 2007, the Liberal Greens obtain 10 seats out of 180 with the Grand the Council, starting again the discussion on opportunity of transforming the party into national party. This decision is finally made on July 19th, 2007. With the federal elections of October 21st, 2007, the party takes down in Zurich three seats with the National council and its first seat with the Council of the States for Zurich on November 25th, 2007 at the time of the second turn.

The Liberal Greens are seen like a party of the center and thus a little on the right than the Greens. The differences compared to the Greens thus relate primarily to the related questions to the economy and finances. The Liberal Greens are sometimes compared with Liberal Écologie which is not a party but a political movement. The Liberal Greens are said to the center, while Liberal Écologie, trained members of all the right parties, is at the center-right.
