Lezennes

Lezennes (to pronounce) is a common French, located in the department of the Northern (59) and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais

Its inhabitants is called Lezennois.

Geography

Located at the south-east of Lille, between the communes of Ronchin, Hellemmes, Villeneuve d' Ascq and Lesquin.

The city is known for its old career S underground of white stone (Craie), of which certain parts in form of bottles of champagne are called " catiches" , deep of approximately 15 Mr. After the end of the extraction of the stone (18th century), the carrièes were used some time as mushroom beds or for the culture of endives and barb of capuchin, left salad bleached to very long sheets, before being definitively abandoned. They always attract curious and impassioned strong emotions, in spite of a formal prohibition of access. A mythical place is known there. it is about the " Lake Bleu" , zone deepened in the careers by an owner having tried to extract from matiériaux phosphatic to make manures of them. It is this mineral which gives to water its bluish reflections. Unfortunately of many dwellings of the commune used a long time these galleries like waste water rejection…
