Richard III (October 2nd 1452 - August 22nd 1485), Duke of Gloucester, was the last of the kings Plantagenêt of England (1483 - 1485).

It is the youngest brother of the king Edouard IV.

During the reign of his brother, Richard shows an absolute honesty, his currency is " besides; Honesty me lie". He is one of the most valid advisers of the king and also a very noticed soldier. In recognition of his qualities, Edouard gives him the title of duke of Gloucester and the fact governor of North. Of 1462 with 1483, it is also the Lord High Admiral ordering the fleet of the kingdom. Richard and his wife, Anne Neville (1456 - 1485) (widowed of Edouard, only son of the king Henri VI), live the castle of Middleham, where they passed most of their childhood. Richard is loved by the inhabitants of the north of England, from where are originating the majority in its partisans. Richard and his wife have a legitimate son, Edouard de Middleham, Prince de Galles 1473-1484).

The sudden death of his/her brother gives to Richard the opportunity to seize the throne after having évincé its nephew, the king Edouard V, of which it is named tutor. The Edouard young person and his brother Richard are sent to the Tour of London. Nobody re-examines them after the summer 1483, and it is supposed that they are assassinated there. It is there the subject of a great controversy.

After having triumphed over several plots, it must face the invasion of the kingdom by the applicant Henri Tudor. Betrayed by one of his vassal with the Battle of Bosworth, Richard is killed with the combat. He is perceived later like a monster, a malicious man, assassin of all those which he saw like his enemies. It is indeed an ambitious, but probably innocent man of the majority of the crimes of which it is marked.
