Lex Plautia Papiria
The lex Plautia Papiria is a Roman law, promulgated in 89 av. J. - C., of both powerful orators of the plebs Mr. Plautius Silvanus and C. Papirius Carbo.
It aims at putting a term at the social Guerre who opposes Rome to his Italian allies who claim the Roman established among. It generalizes the former concessions formulated in 90 av. J. - C. in the Lex Julia and grants in theory the established among with all the Italians to the south of Po without exception, under the only conditions of having their official domicile in Italy and of coming to be made register in Rome even by the Préteur under a 60 days deadline.
This law gave satisfaction to the majority of the risen Italian people, while profiting with those which had not taken share with the revolt (Etrusques, Ombriens). Its practical application still required debates, to decide in which Roman tribes would be registered the new citizens. The conservatives (left the Optimates ) wanted to register them only in the four urban tribes, which neutralized the influence of the Italians. The progressists (left the Populares ) obtained that the inscriptions are distributed on all 35 tribe.
