Lex Gabinia

The law of Gabinius or Lex Gabinia was proposed by the Tribun of the plebs Aulus Gabinius to give a wide military capacity on all the the Mediterranean to a Roman general, in order to get rid of the Pirate S which infested this sea. For the first time, such a capacity ( Imperium ) was not entrusted for a Roman Province precise as it is the use, but for the whole of the Mediterranean coasts. It is Pompée which profited in -67 from it.
