Lew Hoad

Lewis Alan “Lew” Hoad , born the November 23rd 1934 with Glebe, New South Wales, Australia, deceased the July 3rd 1994 with Fuengirola, Spain, was a champion of Australian Tennis .

Fair and beautiful like a movie star, with a strong physique and an opened personality, Hoad became an icon of tennis in the years 1950. The force was very important in an attacking play which attacked its adversaries instead of making exchanges while waiting for the convenient period, but it had also enough the address to gain Roland Garros on his beaten Ground rather slow. Of 1952 with 1956 it was classified among the 10 best amateurs of the world, being number 1 in 1956.

According to the great champion Pancho Gonzales, Hoad “… was the only guy which, if I played my best tennis, could beat me nevertheless. I believe that its play was the best set of all times. Better than mine. ”

Hoad was incorporated in the International Tennis Hall off Famed of Newport (Rhode Island) in 1980.
