Levi Eshkol
Levi Eshkol (in Hebrew: לויאשכול) (born the October 25th 1895, dead the February 26th 1969) is the third Prime Minister for the State of Israel of 1963 until its death (of a Heart attack) in 1969.
Born in 1895 in a village near the town of Kiev in Ukraine, Levi Eshkol was born from a mother of hassidic culture and from a father rather close to the Mitnagdim. Levi Eshkol thus receives a strongly religious education. He immigrates in Israel in 1914. He engages as of his arrival in the Jewish Légion.
Eshkol is elected with the Knesset for the first time in 1951, as a member of the party Mapai. In 1963, it succeeds David Ben Gourion at the post of Prime Minister. Its mandate is characterized by a strong opening to international, a bringing together with the West Germany (first diplomatic contacts in 1965), and strong cultural bonds with the the USSR.
During the War the six day old, it gathers a government of national union, and entrusts the wallet of defense to Moshe Dayan.
In Israel, Levi Eshkol is particularly known to have set up the national system of distribution of the Eau.
