Leval is a commune of the Territoire of Belfort attached to the canton of Rougemont-the-Castle. Primarily agricultural, it is located on the Saint Nicolas's Day , small river taking its source at the bottom of the valley known as of Saint Nicolas's Day, on the territory of Rougemont-the-Castle. The village was built along the road connecting Lachapelle-under-Rougemont to Rougemont-the-Castle. The part of its territory located at the east of the village, on the impermeable ground, is covered of ponds; the Lake of the Seigniory in fact partie.

After the defeat of 1871, Leval belonged to the four communes which were detached from the canton of Masevaux, remained Alsatian, to constitute the canton of Rougemont. The population evolved/moved little in time: 268 inhabitants in 1803, 321 in 1881 and 196 with the census of 1999
The parishioners of Leval depended completely on Angeot until the institution of the parish of Rougemont-the-Castle, then divided themselves between Angeot and Rougemont until in 1772, date on which the village is attached to the parish of Rougemont.
