Lev Polougaïevsky

Lev Abramovitch Polougaïevski , born the November 20th 1934 with Moguilev (RSS of Bielorussia, the USSR) and dead the August 30th 1995 with Paris, is a international Large-Master with the failures. Several times champion of the USSR, it also was on several occasions claiming with the championship of the world of failures, but without never managing to gain the title.

Regarded as one of the strongest players of the world in the years 1960 and 1970, Polougaïevsky is also known for its many contributions to the theory of the openings. Its work in the sicilian Défense remains important. It thus created an alternative of the Sicilienne Najdorf which bears its name: very sharp, the “Polougaïevsky alternative” however is very discussed also. In the Secrecies of a large Master , a single book in its kind, he tells the birth of “his” alternative and reveals the mysteries of his preparations,

At the beginning of the year 1977, it develops a brilliant theoretical innovation after several days of analysis studied the alternative up to 25 blows of depth, even more. The innovation will be finally played 4 years later with the tournament of Moscow and will involve the disappearance of one of the principal lines of the complex Botvinnik system in semi-Slavic defense.
