Leucate
Leucate is a common French, located in the department of the Aude and the area Languedoc-Roussillon. Its name comes from the Greek " leukos" who wants to say white.
Its inhabitants is called Leucatois.
Geography
Commune located in the Corbières and more precisely in the maritime Corbières on the littoral audois halfway between Narbonne and Perpignan. The commune is stretched on four tourist poles:
- Franqui,
- Leucate village,
- Leucate beach,
- and Port-Leucate.
Geographically Leucate belongs to the Corbières, more specifically in Corbières maritime. The Cape Leucate is the Eastern point of the maritime Corbières. Peninsula of Leucate, which is actually an old quaternary island (named Île of Leucate) is into large part forms by Calcaires Lacustres of the average Pliocène.
History
