Letter of Siberia

Lettre of Siberia is a Documentary film carried out by Chris Marker in 1957.

A scene is particularly memorable and funny: a bus in the streets of Yakoutsk, the workers, having a cast Yakouste. This catch of sight is described with three recoveries according to three types of comments:

  • the glorification of the socialist mode: Iakoutsk, capital of the Soviet socialist Republic of Yakoutie is a modern city, where comfortable buses… picturesque representing boreal regions etc.
  • a neutral description: With Iakoutsk, where the modern houses gradually gain on dark the old workings… Yakoute afflicted with strabism etc.
  • a diatribe against collectivism: Iakoutsk, with the disaster reputation, is a dark city where while the population painfully piles up in red buses blood… a worrying Asian etc.
