Lette
The lette (or lète or lède ) is the regional name of the Landes of Gascogne indicating a depression registered between two Dune S of the littoral zone.
Etymology
Lette comes from the Gascon leta or leda , itself resulting from Latin lata : broad
Presentation
The lettes appeared formerly, before the dunes are not fixed, as Oasis between the wild dunes of the “desert landais”. They were, according to the level of water, marsh for fishing or hunting for duck, grazes for the wild marine cows or horses, refuges of the bushes between arid sands. Nowadays, thanks to the cleansing and the development of the Moors of Gascogne, water was done rarer there and the blosas , moving Sables of antant, seem dangerous no more there. The two ponds of Malloueyre fit in coastal lette of Mimizan.
