Lessor

The lessor (sometimes named " admodiateur") was, under the Ancien Mode that which gave a ground in hiring (" with ferme"), with the help of a periodic service, generally in kind (cereals, etc…).
The lessor gave in " amodiation" such or such cultivable ground with a " amodiataire". The ground (" ferme") was " amodiée" for such or such quantity of corn, for example.
