Geography

The commune of Lesseux is located in Déodatie in the valley of the Fave, in the middle of the Regional natural park of the Balloons of the Vosges. It belongs to the Communauté of communes of the Valley of Galileo. The village occupies a valley in cul-de-sac, directed East-West, opening on the valley of North-South Fave directed.

History

The village was built on grounds cleared by the monks of Saint-Dié following the example other villages of the valley. The commune of Lesseux was extended before the French revolution since it was plain with the village of Lusse.

At the end of the 19th century, the village was almost frontier with Germany (by thatches of Read). Before the First World War, the village lived agriculture, breeding and wood. There were important potato cultures which provided starch works located in the valley, in particular with Frapelle (for the manufacture of starch intended to manufacture adhesive and used in the textile). The village was the seat of important combat during the First World War (coast 607). The troops were stabilized on the heights of the village (Germans in the North-East (coast 607) and the French (Chapis) in south-west).

The elementary school, with single class, counted to about thirty pupils in 1900. It was closed in 1980 (with 6 pupils the last year). Today the village belongs to the Intercommunity association of the Schools of Read.

The landscape was deeply modified following the storm of 1999. The peaks timbered at the end of XXe century are today stripped and partly found their face of the end of XIXe where the fields dominated.
