Less than one quarter of second to live is a cartoon of Jean-Christophe Menu (drawing) and Lewis Trondheim (scenario) published for the first time in 1990 with the editions Association, in the collection Éperluette. It was the subject of a republication in 1996. It is about a One shot. This work is described as OuBaPien by anticipation , because created starting from a Contrainte artistic volunteer, but carried out before is founded and formalized this committee.
The artistic constraint employed here is the iconic iteration : Jean-Christophe Menu initially drew four boxes without text that Lewis Trondheim assembled to create a score of strips of four boxes, sometimes employing in a strip one only of the four labels (four times). Trondheim also added text.
Indicator which the process could give of good performances, but that the number of possible combinations was too weak, Menu drew four additional boxes, which made it possible Trondheim to create hundred strips.
These hundred strips thus constitute this album. They can be read independently from/to each other but the repetition of the boxes gives a strong coherence to the whole which ends up forming a followed history.
