Demography
15th century, until the end of the 19th century, the population increases slowly. Indeed, one counted 500 inhabitants in 1498. In the middle of the 18th century, one counted yet only 550 of them. During the 19th century, from 1180 inhabitants in 1836, the population passes to 1389 inhabitants in 1891; that is to say a growth 10 times lower than the national average. On the other hand, following the establishment of factories (in particular the Hatred-Saint-Pierre steel-works), the evolution will be faster between 1891 and 1911 (2125 inhabitants). This increase will last until 1931, where 3893 inhabitants are counted. The increase is then 2 times superior with the national average. The second world war will involve a regression of the births and the increase in the deaths with Lesquin. Until 1954, the number of the births will vary from 36 to 52. Between 1964 and 1972, the creation of the allotment " small the hameau" will bring to Lesquin a new mass of population (more than 1500 inhabitants).
