Lepuix-Neuf

Geography
The village is in the south-east of the Territoire of Belfort on a plate to 400 m of altitude, with the limit of the Département of Haut-Rhin.
History
The Roman Way connecting formerly Epomanduodurum (Mandeure) (department of the Doubs) in Augusta Raurica (Augst) (Swiss) and Kembs (Haut-Rhin) crossed the territory of Lepuix. The name of the village is mentioned for the first time in 1189 under the orthography Albapoys . A vault existed already in 1359 but the village depended on the parish of Courtelevant. It is only in 1848 that Lepuix-Neuf will become a parish autonome.Lepuix-Neuf forms part with Friesen and Suarce of some villages of the Sundgau which were released 2 times at the end of the Second world war. The village was released the 19 then on November 22nd, 1944 after hard combat which caused extensive damage; on 65 houses, 23 were entirely destroyed and 36 partially. The Saint Nicolas's Day church which it also was destroyed at the time of the combat of November 22nd, 1944 was rebuilt after the guerre.
The village which named beforehand Lepuix was renamed Lepuix-Neuf by decree of August 19th, 1961 published in the Official journal on August 26th, 1961.
