The Lepospondyli form a subclass of extinct Amphibien. These species appeared at the beginning of Permian the most recent species disappeared with the Carbonifère. The Lepospondyli form a group of small species. The Diplocaulus forming one of species of one meter, contain largest of the species of Lepospondyli . They lived in same the specific ecological niches as their contemporaries Temnospondyli . This subclass is very diverse because it contains species resembling snakes, tritons, lizards.

The Lepospondyli are characterized by their vertebrae. No ancestor clear is known, also one does not know if this taxon is Monophylétique. It is not known if all the species of this subclass disappeared or if the Lepospondyli are the ancestors of the Amphibians Batrachomorpha or even of amniotes.

Separately the Nectridea , their surface of distribution is limited to Europe and North America.
