The Aragon ( Castilian Aragón in and Aragonese, Catalan Aragó in ) is a autonomous community located in the north of the Spain. It is made up of three provinces: the Province of Huesca , the Province of Saragossa and the Province of Teruel . It is bordered in north by the France, in the east by the Catalogne and the Valencian Communauté, in the south by the Castille it Manche, in the west by the Castille-and-León and the Navarre. The northern area of Aragon preserves the language Aragonese E. The Eastern area preserves the use of the language Catalan E in the daily life. Currently, the Castillan is the only official language there.
History
Since 1978, Aragon is community autonomous and thus has an autonomy in several fields.See also: Kingdom of Aragon.
Geography
Of a surface of 47.645 km ², Aragon is divided into 3 provinces: Huesca, Teruel and Saragossa ( Zaragoza in Spanish). The town of Saragossa is at the same time the capital of the province of the same name and Aragon. Aragon counts 739 cities.
This autonomous community counts approximately 1,2 million inhabitants.
According to the census of 1991, Aragon counted 1.178.000 inhabitants. There was another census into 2001 which counted 1.200.000 inhabitants. This figure accounts for 2,95% of the population of the country and a density of 25,2 habitants/km ².
The population is unequally distributed, approximately 800.000 inhabitants live in the province from Saragossa and 600.000 in the capital.

Policy
Marcelino Iglesias Ricou, member of PSOE, is the president of Aragon since the August 2nd 1999. He was re-elected after the regional elections of 2003. He has just been taken back for a third mandate in 2007. (elections of May 27th)A coalition, formed the PSOE and BY (Partido Aragonés) is with the government.
In Spanish the Parliament of Aragon names Las the Cortes de Aragón .
Economy
The GDP of the autonomous community accounts for approximately 3 or 4% of the national GDP. Opel has a factory close to the town of Saragossa.
Gastronomy
Teruel is known for its goods Jambon S. Aussi its wines are famous (especially labels of origin Cariñena, Borja and Somontano), as the oil of Bajo Aragón and the dishes most typical are the roast lamb, the bread ragout fried with plugs (" migas") or the chicken with the " chilindrón" (with tomato and pepper). The fabada is also very famous level gastronomy in Aragon.
