Leopold Kronenberg

Leopold Kronenberg (1812 - 1878) financial, industrial, economic and political leader Polish.

Of 1839 with 1860, having obtained the concession of the monopoly of the tobacco in the kingdom of Poland (Kingdom of the Congress), it piles up a considerable fortune of which it is used for to develop the economy of the country (sugar industry, construction of railways, marketing activities and banking). It is also invested in the rural economy while taking part in work of the agricultural Company. In 1859, Leopold Kronenberg makes its entry in the world of the press by repurchasing a newspaper ( Gazeta Codzienna ). It financially supports the Insurrection of January (1861) against the Russian S. After the crushing of this revolt, it becomes a representative of the camp of the compromise with the Russians. In 1870, Leopold Kronenberg founds the commercial bank of Warsaw. In 1875, it creates the school commercial of Varsovie.
It is also the cofounder and godfather of the Philharmonic society of Warsaw.
