Leonid Danilovitch Koutchma was born the August 9th 1938 in Tchaïkine, in the area of Tchernihiv. Engineer, member of the Communist party of the Soviet Union of 1960 to 1991, he was Prime Minister for the Ukraine in 1992 - 1993 then president of the Republic of 1994 with 1999 (he was re-elected).

Its second mandate finished in October 2004; its successor is Viktor Iouchtchenko, which gained the Ukrainian presidential election.
