Leonardo Pisano
Leonardo Fibonacci (Pisa, v. 1175 - v. 1250) is a Mathématicien Italy N. Fibonacci (of its modern name), known at the time under the name of Leonardo Pisano (Léonard of Pisa) , but also of Leonardo Bigollo ( bigollo meaning traveller), was called probably actually Leonardo Guilielmi .
Biography
Born with Pisa, in Italy, its education was done mainly in North Africa. His/her father, Guilielmo Bonacci, lived with Béjaïa (Candle, Bgayet, Bugia) where he was the representative of the merchants pisans in Algérie, in Tunisia and with the Morocco near the customs, and where Fibonacci began its education in mathematics. At that time, Béjaïa was a great intellectual center, where resided of the scientists like Sidi Boumedienne, Ibn Hammad, Abd Al-Haqq Al-Ishbili and Abu Hamid Al-Sarir. In 1202, Fibonacci brought back of it the Arab numerals and the algebraic Notation (of which some allot the introduction to Gerbert d' Aurillac). This illustrates the bonds between the commercial vitality of the towns of Italy of the time and the scientific and artistic creativity their members.
In 1202, it publishes Liber Abaci (“books of calculations”), a treated on the Calcul S and the Comptabilité founded on the decimal Calcul with one time when all the Occident still used the Roman numerals and calculated on Abaque. This book is strongly influenced by its life in the Arab countries; it is written besides partly from right to left.
By this publication, Fibonacci introduces the marking system Indian in Europe. This system is much more powerful and rapid that the Roman notation, and Fibonacci in is fully conscious. He however pained to be essential before several centuries. The invention will be badly received because the public did not include/understand any more calculations that made the tradesmen. In 1280, Florence prohibits even the use of the Arab numerals by the bankers. It was judged that the 0 brought the confusion and of the difficulties so much so that they called this system will cifra , which means “secret code”.
Fibonacci is known nowadays for a problem leading to the numbers and after which bear its name, but to its time, they are especially the applications of the Arithmétique to commercial calculation which made it recognize: calculation of the profit of the transactions, Conversion between currency S of various countries. Its work on the Théorie of the numbers was ignored of alive sound. Later, of the not very serious studies made on him led to esoteric uses, which one finds even on the level of certain stock exchange methods (technical Analyze). The name of Fibonacci, corresponding to “wire of Bonacci”, was allotted to him in a posthumous way.
Dan Brown, in her book Da Vinci Code clarified this famous mathematician by giving an major importance to the series Fibonacci, which made known it near the general public.
