Leon V of Arménie
Leon V of Arménie or Levon V (1310 † 1341) were a king d' Arménie of 1320 with 1341. It was wire of Oshin, king d' Arménie, and of Isabelle de Korikos, both of the family of the Héthoumides.
Biography
During its minority, regency is ensured by Oshin, lord of Korikos, his uncle and father-in-law. During this period, the sudden kingdom of the raids of the Mameluke S and Mongolian S. the pope Jean XXII intervened to encourage the ilkhan and the king Philippe V of France to help Arménie, and the kingdom obtains a fifteen years truce with the sultan Al-Nasr Muhammad. Leon is obliged of wife the girl of the regent, Alice de Korikos. Oshin orders the assassination of several family members royal to reinforce his capacity, and the revenge on Leon when it reaches his majority in 1329 was violent. Oshin, her Kostandin brother, constable of Arménie and lord of Lampron, Alix, the woman of Leon are assassinated on the order of the king, the head of Oshin is sent to Ilkhan and that of Kostandin to Al-Nasr Muhammad.
Leon is frankly francophile and favorable to the union of the churches Armenian and Roman, which displeases to the Armenian barons largely. Its second marriage with Constance of Aragon reinforces the feeling anti-franc considerably.
In 1337, Al-Nasr Muhammad Arménie invades again, takes the town of Ayas and Leon is obliged to conclude a treaty humiliating, yielding territory, pouring an important tribute and promising not to treat with the Francs. It last the remainder of its life in the fortress of Located, by hoping for the Western assistance. He dies assassinated on December 28th, 1341. His/her Héthoum son having already died, it had designated in his will like heir his cousin Guy de Lusignan.
Marriages and children
He had married on August 10th, 1321 his German cousin Alix de Korikos († 1329), girl of Oshin, lord of Korikos, and Isabelle d' Ibelin. From this marriage, forced, had been born:- Héthoum, dead young in 1331.
Having made assassinated its first wife, it remaria on December 29th, 1331 with Constancy of Aragon, widow of Henri II, king de Chypre, and girl of Frederic II of Aragon, king de Sicile, and of Eléonore of Anjou-Sicily. There were no children of this second marriage.
