Leon Théry

Leon Théry , (1879 - 1909), French racing driver which gained twice the automobile Coupe Gordon Bennett.

In 1904 it is victorious first once and the following year, on July 5th, 1905, on a circuit in Auvergne to traverse 4 times what made 548 km. It was at the wheel of a Richard-Blazing inferno of eleven liters and 96 horses. It gains the race, with its Muller mechanic, in 7:00 and 6 minutes to almost 80 km/h mean velocity, it was the last edition of this race.

Théry had put its technical experiment and its popularity at the service of the firm Michelin, but he dies at 30 years of a phthisis. He is buried with the Cimetière of the Father-Lachaise.

In 2005, for the hundredth birthday of this event, many demonstrations are organized. The postal administration publishes a stamp and the Monnaie of Paris striking a medal commemorative representing Leon Théry at the wheel of his Blazing inferno.
