Leon Prunelle (or simply Pupil ) is a supporting character of the cartoon Gaston Lagaffe.
Smoking the pipe, carrying a collar of barb, the Journaliste Prunelle becomes responsible for the “gaffor” after the departure of Fantasio (Franquin having given up the adventures of Spirou and Fantasio) located at the gag n° 480. Sometimes amused blunders in the beginning, it quickly becomes extremely nervous during its exchanges with Gaston.
Failing in its turn many times in the signature of the contracts with Aime De Mesmaeker, it passes its nerves as it can it on Gaston. It is famous for its swearwords, which, contrary to those of the Capitaine Haddock, are generally of long growls. Most famous being able to spell itself as follows: “Rroognntuudjuuu! ” (actually deformation of authentic “a Name of God! ”).
In spite of its conflicts with the hero and its nervousness, it sometimes happens to him to maintain the friendlier contacts with Gaston apart from work - at this time, its accesses of fury are done rarer and it is interested then in the vexations and moral conflicts of Gaston (on the army, pollution, animal ill-treatment…), while trying to make grow the character (by calling upon its direction of the responsibilities or while wanting to make him make sport), in general without success.
Origin
The goatee of Pupil is inspired by a member of the Flemish drafting of Spirou. It was the only time or Franquin took as a starting point a real member of the drafting for creates a character. The name Prunelle came from an idea of Yvan Delporte.
