Leon Halkin
Leon Halkin , born in Liege on May 11th 1906 and deceased in Liege on December 29th 1998, is a Belgian Historien , a Résistant and a Walloon militant.
Biography
Doctor in philosophy and letters of the University of Liege, former student of the National university of Paris, it to him was entrusted a new course created to the University of Liege: the course of history of the Principality of Liege. It was promoted doctor honoris causa Université of Strasbourg, Université of Montpellier and Protestant Faculté of Brussels like prize winner of the Price Montaigne (1977).
It is known for a republished book of multiple times under various titles, Initiation with historical criticism , which was published in Liege, Tongres and Paris. He was the author of an important article entitled Wallonia in front of the history in particular published in the Christian City of Jacques Leclerc. He affirms in particular that Flemings and Walloons are other thing that first names, these words recover human realities différentes.
He enters resistance as of September 1940, melting Ici free Belgium in which Arsène Soreil takes part. He is member of the Front of independence and it is him which directs the Réseau Socrate. Following a denunciation it is stopped by the German police force on November 17th, 1943. It spends four months to Breendonck then is interned with the camps of Large-Rosen, Dora and Nordhausen. He escapes and writes from it the book In the shade of dead the , republished several times, in particular by the Duculot editions with Gembloux in 1985. The historian rigorous, critical, observes and overcomes his suffering.
He takes part in the Walloon National congress of Liege in 1945. He adheres to Walloon Rénovation of which he is made member of honor. Deep Christian and authenticates, it marked his existence by many engagements citizens against the mode of Franco, the Guerre of Vietnam, for the creation of a humanistic Europe, the development of a lit Urbanisme, justice for the Tiers-monde.
