Leon Golub
Leon Golub is a painter American born the January 23rd 1922 with Chicago.
It makes its studies with Art Institute of Chicago of 1940 with 1942 and of 1946 with 1950 (its studies were stopped by the Guerre during which it was mobilized in aviation on the European face).
Its first personal exposure in 1950 shows a militant and committed painting. In 1951, it Marie with the artist Nancy Spero. He lived and worked with New York until in 2004 where he dies the August 8th of the continuations of a long illness.
Works
Near to the group of the New figuration, it is defined as a kind to defer and protests violently in its fabrics against all violences and the injustices. Its immense fabrics with message are painted all over and want to be inventories of fixtures of the contemporary company. Its subjects are in general prototypes of victims, mercenaries, police officers and soldiers. The hardness of its matter is accentuated by accumulating coats of paint which it dissolves with solvent. Thus it reveals “a sculptural image of the man, devastated and eroded… ”. He denounces the use of the force and the abuses which we subject to our world.
