Leon Fleuriot
Leon Fleuriot (1923 - 1987) is an academic French specialist in the Celtic Langues (old Breton, Welsh and Irish) and history of the Gallo-Roman Brittany and beginning of the Middle Ages.
Born the April 5th 1923 with Morlaix in a family originating in the area in Quintin and in her youth having studied the Breton , it makes a success of with the aggregate contest of of the University for the History in 1950. He teaches in Lycée and Collège with Paris, in his suburbs and with the Military academy of the Arrow. He enters to CNRS in 1958 and became doctor of the University to the Sorbonne in 1964 by supporting a thesis entitled: theBreton one, elements of a grammar , as well as a complementary thesis, Dictionary of the Glose S into old man-Breton .
In 1966, it is named professor with the pulpit of the Celtic studies of the University of High-Brittany with Rennes and at the same time research director with the practical École of the High Studies in Paris. It strongly contributes to the rise of the teaching of Breton at the university level, while publishing many texts which made it possible to make progress considerably the study of old man-Breton and of its languages sisters. Its Master delivers the origins of Brittany , appeared in 1980, is a particularly fine and careful study plentiful, but lacunar and sometimes incoherent sources written over the first centuries of our era in Armorique and even in the Northern half of France.
