Leon Flameng

Leon Flameng , born the April 30th 1877 and deceased the January 2nd 1917, is a runner cyclist French, Olympic champion in 1896 on the 100 km in 3:08 ' 19" with 14 solo circuits in advance on the second. The performance is all the more remarkable as Flameng fell heavily during the race. Following this indisputable success, Flameng is carried in triumph by the spectators, and when the French flag is hoisted with the chechmate in the honor of its victory, crowd is discovered in mark of respect. Never until there, the lifting of the flag in the honor of a winner had not been greeted thus by the spectators. One did not count less than 20.000 spectators to the cycle-racing track of which the Greek royal family.

After this success, Flameng takes part in three other tests and gains two new medals, one of money and one of bronze.
