Leon Christmas , French politician, born the March 28th 1888 in Paris, deceased the August 6th 1987 with Toucy (Yonne).
Biography

Invited in June 1940 to sit, like representative of the foreign affairs, in the armistice council which the general Huntziger directs, it will refuse to affix its paraph with the bottom of the signed armistices Franco-German and Franco-Italian with Rethondes and Rome in the presence of Hitler and of the general Badoglio.
Named delegated in the occupied territories the July 9th 1940, it resigned ten days later and joins with de Gaulle in 1943. After the war, He becomes member of the board of directors of several companies: Rhône-Poulenc, the company Esso-Standard, of the South and various insurance company Railroads.
It rejoins RPF, chairs its commission of the foreign affairs, sits at its National council and is made elect Député RPF of the Yonne of 1951 with 1955. He writes Our last chance i.e. de Gaulle. He is the first President of the Constitutional council of 1959 with 1965. He expresses doubts on the constitutionality of the project of revision of the Constitution aiming at founding the election of the president of the Republic by the universal direct suffrage without passing by the parliamentary way.
In her Memories of hope , de Gaulle writes in this connection: “All that a vast legal experiment can offer, administrative, diplomatic and political, when she is united with the value of a spirit of scale and the heat of a patriot, Leon Christmas brings it to the opinions that he gives me on the operation of our new institutions. ”
Member of the Academy of Science morals and political in 1944, it chairs it in 1958.
Member of the Company of Historical and Natural Sciences of Yonne in 1927, he becomes president (1946-1956) about it then honorary president until his death.
