In 1947, it carries out a training course in psychiatry at the hospital of Mount the Sinai of New York in a service of medicine Psychosomatique directed by the psychoanalyst Lawrence Kubie.
Of return in France, it makes an analysis at Jacques Lacan of 1948 to 1954. From 1948 to 1949, he is the assistant of Marcel Montassut with the psychiatric hospital of Villejuif. In 1950, it creates the psychosomatic center of medicine in Villejuif with Victor Gachkel where it receives the visit of Franz Alexander. At that time, he works voluntarily within the service of cancerology of Pierre Aboulker.
In the years 1950, he travels to the United States, where he is made hypnotize by Milton Erickson, and in Germany where he is made hypnotize by Johannes Heinrich Schultz. It is at that time that it meets the psychoanalyst Raymond de Saussure and the scholar specialist in the animal Magnétisme Robert Amadou.

In 1971, it founds the Grouping for the Study of the Medical applications of Hypnosis and in 1972, it accommodates Didier Michaux in his laboratory. The end of the year 1970 and years 1980 are marked by its exchanges with philosophers such François Roustang, Mikkel Borch-Jacobsen, Michel Henry and Isabelle Stengers.
Chertok considered that the psychoanalysts neglected the practice of the Hypnose and thus attracted the many ones and critical sharp of their share. It made an analysis at Jacques Lacan and was the pupil of Francis Pasche but was refused as analyst with SPP. It was also one of those, that was reproached to him, which maintained contacts with Soviet psychiatry . Its position “of heretic” had insulated it and its contribution to hypnosis was neglected to the favor of the ericksonniens authors. With Isabelle Stengers, he said and repeated his opposition to the psychoanalysis and the institutions representing it.
